Professor Nick Cutter

Cutter was trembling, it felt like he couldn't breathe as they kept pushing through the press, all of those questions that were being thrown at him.

"Professor Cutter is it true you cheated on your wife to have an affair with another of your students, Stephen Hart? That you were involved in her disappearance so

Cutter wanted nothing more than to stop and yell back at the press to leave them alone, that he and Connor had done nothing wrong but he knew that if he did that, he would cause more damage so he kept his head down and said nothing.

At last they reached the door and the press seemed to surge and push in tighter in one last attempt to get their questions in. Becker wrangled the door open and all but tried to shove Cutter and Connor in to get them away from the press. Just as he did one question rang out, cutting through the others because of the name attached to it.

"Captain Becker, is it true that your last mission ended with four of the men under your command dead because of a rash decision you made as leader? What do you say to Christine Johnson's claims that the mission went sideways because you were selling government secrets to terrorist groups?"

Becker froze and glared at the reporter. "No... Comment..." he said coldly and then stepped through the door. Once inside he leaned back against the door and tried to compose himself.

Cutter all but collapsed to the floor, as he tried to regain control of his breathing, trying to tell himself that he was over but it had still shaken him. "Please tell me we can go through the back way when we're done here?" he trembled as he looked up at Becker. "I don't want to do that again,"

"Aye, we can go out the back way. Don't worry..." Becker tried to calm down and catch his breath and looked at Connor and Cutter. "You two ok?"

Connor looked up from where he had sank to the ground, back to the nearest wall. He gave a weak smile and a thumbs up- he really didn't trust himself to talk just then.

It took Cutter a while to catch his breath, he was still on the ground, he couldn't stop trembling, he could only nod at first and then slowly but surely he managed to squeak out an, "I'll be okay," he took another deep breath, "are you okay Becker, I'm sorry that the press got you,"

Becker put a hand on Connor's shoulder giving him a reassuring pat and then went over and kelt in front of Cutter to make sure he was ok.

"Eh, I'll live...they're just doing what the press and media do, scramble for any scraps they can find." Becker tried to push a smile but inside he was fighting back the warring emotions of anger and guilt. The damned press.

Cutter nodded at that, he was more shaken up than he wanted to admit and he looked up at Becker, blinking back furious tears as he tried to compose himself. The last thing he wanted to do was break down crying.

“Sorry,” he said quietly, still not moving from the floor, “I … it shook me up more than I thought,” he admitted.

Connor stood up from where he had been seated and was soon kneeling beside Becker. He reached out to Cutter and pulled him close, wrapping his arms around him tightly.

"You're ok Nick... I got you" he said, gently rubbing Cutter's back. "You did good."

Cutter trembled as Connor wrapped his arms around him, he took several gulping breaths, the last thing he wanted to do was burst into tears in the British Museum but it was hard ... the incident with the press, just reminding him how much control Christine still had and how much she could still ruin their lives.

He closed his eyes, trying to control his breathing as Connor rubbed his back, "thank you," he said quietly as he leaned against Connor, opening his eyes again.

Connor nodded and kept the hug going for a bit. He glanced up at Becker and he gave Cutter a squeeze with one arm as he lifted the other and tried to brush away the stray tears that had started to form in his eyes as well. "We got through it Nick, we'll be ok." Connor sniffed and tried to smile as he pulled back and looked at Cutter. "Come on, we've got an anomaly to deal with."

Cutter took a deep breath as he tried to control his breathing, "okay," he said softly, "let's go see what we're dealing with here, it can't be any worse than what we just faced," he tried to joke but his voice cracked a little as he said it.

Connor gave Cutter another reassuring hug as he helped him to his feet. "We got this" he said, trying to ignore the commotion from outside as the press still lingered just outside, hoping they would come out again.

"Anomaly should be this way based on the report Lester gave us" Becker said as he grabbed his weapon out of his back and started leading them down one of the large corridors and farther into the museum.

Cutter was grateful for the help as Connor got him to his feet, he tried to ignore the press outside as they followed Becker down the corridor.

“I wonder what kind of anomaly would open in the British museum?” Cutter couldn’t help but wonder as they walked. “Do you think it will be past it future?”

"I really hope its past. At least then we might have some idea what we are dealing with" Connor said as he took out his handheld and started checking the readings. "With a future anomaly who knows what the hell could come through."

“At least if it’s a past anomaly, it’s safe to say that Helen’s not involved right?” Cutter said hopefully as he looked around trying to see if there were any signs of anomaly.

"Exactly, theres at least a chance we're dealing with a natural anomaly then" Connor said before turning his attention to the handheld as he studied the readings. "Strange... it looks like we should be right on the anomaly but... but there's nothing here?"

"Well it should be working" Becker said as he leaned over Connor's shoulder to study the readings. "Lester had us do system checks of all the gear while you guys were in Fandom. The handhelds were checked out just a week ago."

"Well then if the reading is right then....that means the anomaly might be..." Connor looked at Cutter then Becker then looked down at his feet. "There's a basement area isn't there?"

"Then that has to be where it is," Cutter nodded, "if the readings are correct, did Lester arrange for us to have complete access to the museum while we were here?" he looked over at Becker

Becker nodded. "We should be good to go wherever we need. Basement area is likely the storage so hopefully we will be less likely to run into anyone down there."

Connor nodded and then looked around. "Probably best to take the stairs. A big enough anomaly might start affecting some of the electronics around here."

"Stairs it is then," Cutter nodded, "I think I saw a sign back there that said the stairs to the basement were further up this way, we should be at the basement in no time and hopefully we'll have a clearer understanding of the anomaly then,"

Well, the basement area was mostly empty... but a place like the British Museum was never actually empty, not really.

And Sarah was there working on some research related to one of the Egyptian exhibits. And as usual she was so caught up in her work she wasn't aware of much else.

"Well this is looking promising, it seems to be empty," Cutter said as they entered the basement and began to look around, he hadn't noticed Sarah still working, "hopefully we can contain the anomaly without any further incident,"

Connor was busy looking at the readings on his handled ADD and then looked up as they turned a corner.

"Found it" he said staring at the anomaly in awe. Even after everything there was no denying the things were very beautiful... until something scary came through. "I'm trying to get a reading for what time period it might be connected to and..."

Connor's voice trailed off and he pointed, mouth gaping open somewhat. There was the anomaly and right beside it was a large shelf of rather old and important looking artifacts and such. And on the other side of the shelves, there was a woman who seemed to be examining one of the items from the shelves. Her back was to them and the anomaly.

"Oh this could complicate things," Cutter groaned as he noticed the woman and he looked at Becker, "what to do we do? Do you think she's noticed the anomaly yet?"

If she had, she didn't seem to be particularly bothered by it.

"Well I doubt we can get her out without her seeing it..." Becker said with a sigh. Why couldn't they have one easy mission, just once? "Maybe we can get her away without too much commotion and..."

Beckerk didn't get to finish as the sound of something dropping to the floor and shattering.

At that moment the woman had turned around to put something back on the shelf. It was then she caught sight of the anomaly and the vase in her hands had fallen to the floor.

"What is that!?" she cried out in surprise.

"Well this just isn't going our way..." Becker sighed rubbing his head.
