Professor Nick Cutter

"Well I doubt we can get her out without her seeing it..." Becker said with a sigh. Why couldn't they have one easy mission, just once? "Maybe we can get her away without too much commotion and..."

Beckerk didn't get to finish as the sound of something dropping to the floor and shattering.

At that moment the woman had turned around to put something back on the shelf. It was then she caught sight of the anomaly and the vase in her hands had fallen to the floor.

"What is that!?" she cried out in surprise.

"Well this just isn't going our way..." Becker sighed rubbing his head.

"It's um ..." Cutter tilted his head at Becker, now wondering how they were supposed to get this woman away from the anomaly and without blowing their cover as well, "er ... it's rather complicated, but um ... we need you to leave the area, it's not safe for you here,"

"Wait... who are you?" Sarah asked, finally registering the three strangers who had shown up. "No one is supposed to be down here expect staff or those with special permission! What are you doing down here?"

From:

"Well we have special permission ... er..." Cutter tried to see if she was wearing a name tag, "Dr....Page?" he tried as he looked back up at her.

"That's right" Connor said, trying to think of what to say. "There's been some concern about... security... for the exhibits and all" Connor glanced at Becker. "We're here to check for safety concerns and other issues. like... this" he said reluctantly with a nod towards the anomaly that was impossible to pretend wasn't there.

"Yes that's right," Cutter nodded, "so if you could please leave now and let us make sure everything is up to ...uh ...code?" he tried to think of something that sounded like they were there to check the safety of the site.

"Awful lot of firepower for a random security check isn't it?" Sarah asked eyeing Becker's weapon in particular. "What exactly is this thing?"

"It's ...uh ...," Cutter tried and realised he didn't have a good cover story for this, they really should have brought Jenny with them for this, "would you believe us if we said that it was a new piece for the museum?"

Sarah just crossed her arms and gave Cutter a look that clearly said "no".

Connor rubbed the back of his head. "Would you believe it is a portal to another time and location in earth's history?"

Becker gave him a quick slap on the back of his head and a look.

"What? Shes probably not going to believe that one either!" he said as he rubbed the back of his head harder this time.

Sarah gave them an incredulous look, "okay I'm going to give you to the count of three to really tell me what's going on, or I'm going to call my boss and have you arrested,"

Cutter sighed, raising his hands slightly in an 'I surrender' position, "look, we have authorisation to be here, we're here because your boss asked us to be here"

"I ..." Sarah began to count, not impressed with that answer.

"Look, Connor was telling the truth... oddly enough" Becker said with a sigh. "The anomaly," he said with a nod, "it is a doorway to another point in time. And this is not the first one we have dealt with either. We're here with the ARC, to keep the anomaly from causing any damage to the museum or anyone here."

"The Ark?" Sarah asked looking even more confused.

"Not that one" Connor said with a small smirk. "A.R.C. Anomaly Research Center."

"Look this might sound rather strange but have you noticed any strange creatures that don't belong in this time period?" Cutter looked at Sarah and then realised how that sounded, "trust me, we don't actually have an Ark," he added.

"N-No... I haven't...." Sarah said still trying to figure out how much of this, if anything, she actually believed. "So what, this is all a big government coverup or something?"

From:

"Er ..." Cutter looked over at Becker and then back at Sarah, "well, we can't actually talk about specific details, we've signed the Official Secrets Act ... which I suppose to answer your question, does make it a government coverup?"

He was really bad at this, "uh ..Connor?" he tried, looking over at Connor since Connor was better about explaining conspiracy theories than he was.

Connor nodded and launched into an overly complicated and long- winded explanation that did sound more conspiracy theory than anything else. At the end, Sarah still looked confused but maybe a little less likely to find the nearest phone and call the police or the press. So, mission accomplished? Maybe?

Cutter relaxed just slightly when it seemed like Sarah wasn't going to report them, "please, trust us ..." he said softly, "I know how this all sounds, we are here to help you,"

"So these things... they really do connect to another time in history?" Sarah asked finally pulling her gaze away from them and back to the anomaly.

"Looks like.... BC era to be semi-exact" Connor said as he looked down at the device in his hands.

From:

"BC era?" Cutter looked to Connor then, "so we are dealing with a past anomaly, do you have an exact location yet? It could tell us what kind of creatures could come through,"

From:

Connor looked at the device and to the anomaly and back a few times as he filed with the settings.

"Middle East I wanna say... maybe Egpyt area? Don't hold me to that last part. The more fine-tune a date I try to come up with the more variation there seems to be. Still working on finding tuning things."

Connor looked over at Cutter and gave a small nod. "But I'd say definitely the Middle East, early BC for sure, and possibly Egpyt area."

Sarah's eyes were wide at that, "are you telling me this portal goes back to Ancient Egypt?" she all but fangirled at that, "maybe I could help, I'm an Egyptologist, I'm Dr. Sarah Page," she introduced herself.

"Professor Nick Cutter," Cutter replied, "this is Connor Temple and Captain Becker," he nodded back to Connor and Becker, "this work is very dangerous, are you sure you would not rather leave now while you had the chance?"

He already knew what her answer would be, he could recognise the same stubborn streak that he had in her.

This could definitely cause all sorts of problems later for sure.

Connor could have sworn he saw Becker facepalm just then for some reason....

"I mean if it is ancient Egypt then we're still looking at fairly normal creatures right? Hippo, crocs, birds, the usuals right?" Connor asked looking at Cutter and then Sarah.

"Unless some other anomaly has opened somewhere else also linking to this time," Becker said with a sigh. All this time hopping stuff gave him a headache. "I mean, couldn't there be another anomaly somewhere else also linking to ancient Egypt that goes back to prehistoric times? Something could come in through that anomaly and then end up coming through this one too?"

"It's possible there could be two anomalies," Cutter considered with a tilt of his head, he looked over at Sarah, "have there been any reports of anything strange or unusual happening at the museum lately ... any unexplained attacks or deaths?"

From:

"Unexpected attacks or deaths?" Sarah reacted, looking a bit incredulous. "Oh yeah sure we schedule those regularly and there's been nothing out of the ordinary there... No, there haven't been any attacks or deaths in the Museum!"

"You know you could have just said," Cutter's lips twitched a little, "so we may need to do another sweep of the museum, in case there's a second anomaly or even one outside ..." he hesitated, "I'm not going back through the front way though," he said looking at Connor and Becker as he did.
