The British Museum, London

Cutter and Connor had been called back home now that their class was done for the session. Even though there were still a few stories about them in the press, there was considerably a lot less of them than there had been.

They had only just gotten to the ARC when the anomaly siren started blaring and it turned out there was an anomaly at the British Museum, Lester had been reluctant to let Connor and Cutter go on the mission with the press still interested in them but Abby and Cutter’s Connor were on another assignment and eventually Lester had okayed Cutter and Connor to go but they had to follow Becker’s orders and stay out of sight as much as they could.

So that was why Cutter was considerably surprised when they pulled up at the British Museum to see a pack of reporters there and his stomach lurched, “do you think they’re here for the creature sighting at the museum?” he tried, surely no one at the museum had leaked to the press that they would be on there way.

"My lips are sealed," Sarah promised, "wait what about my boss, don't I need to let him know that I'm stepping out? I mean I can't exactly let him know that I'm potentially getting recruited to another job?"

"Don't worry," Cutter assured her as he grabbed the last of his things, "my boss will clear it with your boss, he's very good at things like that,"

"Yeah Lester is good. Really really good" Connor agreed. "Now can we get going? The anomaly seems pretty stable. If we can leave some of your men here Becker to watch it I think we can safely head off and call this an easy mission for once."

Becker nodded and gave the orders to his men and started grabbing the last of the gear. "We should be able to get out the back without being noticed. Just toss the gear in the back. One of you will have to ride up front with me."

Oh the horrors, who ever would be willing to accept that arrangement?

"Oh I will," Sarah said eagerly before Cutter and Connor could even say anything, "perhaps I can get you to change your mind about me," she added with a shy smile.

"Well I think that settles it then," Cutter said with a grin as he looked from Sarah to Becker, "now we just have to hope that the press doesn't figure out we can sneak out the back way,"

Connor nodded and then follow after Becker as he started to lead them through the museum.

"If you are looking for the loading bay" Sarah said keeping close to Becker's side. "It's down that way" she said pointing to the left and Bekcker silently nodded and lead them down the way Sarah had indicated.

Connor glanced over at Cutter as they trailed behind them and gave a small smile and a nod towards Sarah and Becker.

Cutter returned the small grin as they followed Becker and Sarah, "well so far I don't see any press," he said hopefully as he looked around them, "I don't want to speak too soon but this could be our easiest mission yet," he said thoughtfully.

Connor smiled and held out his hand for Cutter to take if he wanted as they hurried on after Becker and Sarah. "Let's get to the truck before we go saying anything like that and jinxing ourselves" Connor said with a small laugh.

But it proved that Cutter was right and they were soon leaving the museum, and not a member of the press in sight.

"Ok our ride should be here...." Becker put a hand to the earpiece he was wearing and nodded. "Good here they are" he said as the familiar black SUV pulled up and one of Becker's men jumped out."Aright everyone, in we go, let's get out of here before our luck changes!"

Cutter grinned as he took Connor's hand as they hurried after Becker and Sarah, he let out a sigh of relief as the black SUV pulled up.

Sarah eagerly jumped in to the passenger seat in the front.

"Oh you definitely don't have to tell me twice," Cutter said as began to climb into the back seat.

"Way ahead of ya there" Connor said, already tossing his and Cutter's packs into the bag and clamouring inside.


"Alright" Becker said once he was in and his men were heading back inside to watch the anomaly. "Off we go. Cutter, can you call Lester and let him know we are on our way?"

Cutter grimaced at that, "I guess that's fair," he sighed and he got out his phone to call Lester.

Lester answered, "what's wrong?" he said immediately before Cutter had had a chance to explain.

"So we're on our way back and um ... I'verecruitedsomeonetojointheteam," now that he had to actually tell Lester this, it was a little nerve wracking.

"I believe I misunderstood you Professor, it seems like you said that you recruited someone to join the team," even on the phone Cutter could see his eyebrow raised at that.

"Uh no you heard me correctly," Cutter grimaced a bit.

"How much do they know?" Lester sighed.

"Everything, just about ... her name's Dr. Sarah Page, she's an Egyptologist with the British Museum," Cutter told him.

"Wonderful," Lester groaned, "fine I'll look into, promise me you won't recruit anyone else before you get back,"

"I won't," Cutter said sheepishly.

"Good, see that you don't," and Lester hung up.

"Well he didn't sound too upset?" Cutter said once the phone call had ended and he looked over at Connor and Becker.

Connor nodded slowly and waved his hand back and forth in a so-so fashion. "Definitely could have gone worse I think. He's probably wherever it is he keeps all those files of his and getting Dr. Page's right now and flipping through it madly."

"Wait he already has a file on me?" Sarah turned her head slightly in the back seat at that revelation, "I've never even met your boss, how can he have a file on me?"

"He has a file on everyone," Cutter sighed, "the man knows everything about everyone, if he wants to find something out on someone he'll do it,"

Connor couldn't help but grin as he leaned in from the backseat. "EVERYONE has a file" he said with a nod. "Even Action Man here had a file when he first joined us... quite a thick one too, if I remember right" Connor said as he patted Becker's shoulder.

"There was a reason for that, Connor" Becker said somewhat annoyed. "I have military records so of course Lester got a hold of all of those."

Sarah bit her lip, "Oh that might be problem," she hesitated, "there was a reason that I was assigned to working in the basement ... uh ... I had a disagreement with my boss on one of the digs I went on ... nearly caused an international incident,"

Cutter couldn't help but laugh at that, "oh I think you're going to fit in just fine Sarah, we all pretty much can't follow orders, as Becker here has already experienced plenty of times," he grinned over at him.

Becker looked from Sarah sitting beside him to the two in the back as he looked in the rearview mirror and sighed. "Wonderful, another Maverick on the team.... Lester doesn't pay me enough for putting up with all of this..."

Cutter looked rather sheepish at that, "come on Becker it's not that bad ..." he protested with a grin, "we make your lives very interesting," he added.

That was really not the helpful point you thought it was Cutter.

"You would get bored without us around, admit it" Connor said as he leaned over against the back of Becker's seat and grinned.

"Well it's certainly been a mile a minute since I joined up" he said with a fond smile. "Now sit back and buckle up, don't want to add a ticket to the list of reasons Lester's gonna yell at me today" he said as he gave a quick ruffle of Connor's hair before pushing him back into his seat.

Cutter couldn't help but laugh at that as they settled into the back seat of the SUV, at least it was still a fair way to the ARC and it would give Cutter at least some time to try and think of his argument to Lester, why he needed to approve Sarah being hired.

Connor sat in relative silence, watching with interest as Sarah kept making eyes at Becker and tried to talk with him as they drove. He was going to nudge Cutter to look but he knew his mind was firmly on the little talk they were going t have with Lester when they got back.

So the ride was fairly quite for the most part and at least Becker pulled up the driveway of the ARC, flashed the security badge, and got them parked in the garage.

Cutter was rather nervous as Becker pulled the car into the garage, he could only imagine the mood Lester was going to be in and he looked over at Connor, "well I guess its time to face the music,"

Sarah's eyes were wide as she took in the ARC, "so this is where you guys work?" she tilted her head, "it's just a building, I thought it would be more like an ... I don't know ... meta for a Batcave," she admitted.

Connor couldnt help but grin at that. "Just wait till you see inside. It's going to blow your mind! There's all this tech and really cool stuff we are working on and...."

"And I am pretty sure that it is all soundly covered under the Official Secrets Act that YOU signed Mr Temple" Letser said as he walked over, looking quite cross.

Cutter actually jumped a bit as Lester appeared and he shifted slightly, "uh ... hey James um ... this is Dr. Page," he introduced Sarah.

Lester was still looking unimpressed, "I still want to know why you thought it was a good idea to bring a civilian into this ... an Egyptologist no less!"

"Hey!" Sarah crossed her arms and glared at Lester, not caring if she could potentially be arrested for this, "I'm the one who came up the idea of being able to predict anomalies, you're welcome,"

"Excuse me.. predict anomalies?" Lester said raising an eyebrow then shaking his head. "Wonderful, everyone has gone bloody-well insane!" he said in that typical exasperated Lester tone.

“No listen James, Sarah’s right … every myth has an element of truth … the Loch Ness monster, for example … if we can pinpoint an anomaly to a myth in history, we can start mapping out anomalies,” Cutter said excitedly, “this can lead us to predicting when an anomaly is going to occur and I need Sarah’s help, she’s staying,” he folded his arms and he glared at James.

“You and I are going to be talking about this later,” Lester glared at Becker, "your job is supposed to be providing security, this Is the exact opposite of providing security,"

"In my defence Sir" Becker said with a small nod. "My men and I were scouting the area to make sure there was no creature incursion."

"Yeah, it's not Becker's fault!" Connor said. "He was trying to keep us safe by checking for any sign of a creature or... Helen..." he said, his voice going quiet at saying her name.

"So everyone's already in agreement, why not ... it's not like anyone listens to a word I say anyway," Lester sighed and threw his hands up in the air in exasperation, "what's the point of being in charge of a top secret government organisation when people are going to get recruited off the street,"

Cutter grimaced, "to be fair James, we didn't recruit her off the street, she works at the British Museum,"
