The British Museum, London

Cutter and Connor had been called back home now that their class was done for the session. Even though there were still a few stories about them in the press, there was considerably a lot less of them than there had been.

They had only just gotten to the ARC when the anomaly siren started blaring and it turned out there was an anomaly at the British Museum, Lester had been reluctant to let Connor and Cutter go on the mission with the press still interested in them but Abby and Cutter’s Connor were on another assignment and eventually Lester had okayed Cutter and Connor to go but they had to follow Becker’s orders and stay out of sight as much as they could.

So that was why Cutter was considerably surprised when they pulled up at the British Museum to see a pack of reporters there and his stomach lurched, “do you think they’re here for the creature sighting at the museum?” he tried, surely no one at the museum had leaked to the press that they would be on there way.

Sarah bit her lip, "Oh that might be problem," she hesitated, "there was a reason that I was assigned to working in the basement ... uh ... I had a disagreement with my boss on one of the digs I went on ... nearly caused an international incident,"

Cutter couldn't help but laugh at that, "oh I think you're going to fit in just fine Sarah, we all pretty much can't follow orders, as Becker here has already experienced plenty of times," he grinned over at him.

Becker looked from Sarah sitting beside him to the two in the back as he looked in the rearview mirror and sighed. "Wonderful, another Maverick on the team.... Lester doesn't pay me enough for putting up with all of this..."

Cutter looked rather sheepish at that, "come on Becker it's not that bad ..." he protested with a grin, "we make your lives very interesting," he added.

That was really not the helpful point you thought it was Cutter.

"You would get bored without us around, admit it" Connor said as he leaned over against the back of Becker's seat and grinned.

"Well it's certainly been a mile a minute since I joined up" he said with a fond smile. "Now sit back and buckle up, don't want to add a ticket to the list of reasons Lester's gonna yell at me today" he said as he gave a quick ruffle of Connor's hair before pushing him back into his seat.

Cutter couldn't help but laugh at that as they settled into the back seat of the SUV, at least it was still a fair way to the ARC and it would give Cutter at least some time to try and think of his argument to Lester, why he needed to approve Sarah being hired.

Connor sat in relative silence, watching with interest as Sarah kept making eyes at Becker and tried to talk with him as they drove. He was going to nudge Cutter to look but he knew his mind was firmly on the little talk they were going t have with Lester when they got back.

So the ride was fairly quite for the most part and at least Becker pulled up the driveway of the ARC, flashed the security badge, and got them parked in the garage.

Cutter was rather nervous as Becker pulled the car into the garage, he could only imagine the mood Lester was going to be in and he looked over at Connor, "well I guess its time to face the music,"

Sarah's eyes were wide as she took in the ARC, "so this is where you guys work?" she tilted her head, "it's just a building, I thought it would be more like an ... I don't know ... meta for a Batcave," she admitted.

Connor couldnt help but grin at that. "Just wait till you see inside. It's going to blow your mind! There's all this tech and really cool stuff we are working on and...."

"And I am pretty sure that it is all soundly covered under the Official Secrets Act that YOU signed Mr Temple" Letser said as he walked over, looking quite cross.

Cutter actually jumped a bit as Lester appeared and he shifted slightly, "uh ... hey James um ... this is Dr. Page," he introduced Sarah.

Lester was still looking unimpressed, "I still want to know why you thought it was a good idea to bring a civilian into this ... an Egyptologist no less!"

"Hey!" Sarah crossed her arms and glared at Lester, not caring if she could potentially be arrested for this, "I'm the one who came up the idea of being able to predict anomalies, you're welcome,"

"Excuse me.. predict anomalies?" Lester said raising an eyebrow then shaking his head. "Wonderful, everyone has gone bloody-well insane!" he said in that typical exasperated Lester tone.

“No listen James, Sarah’s right … every myth has an element of truth … the Loch Ness monster, for example … if we can pinpoint an anomaly to a myth in history, we can start mapping out anomalies,” Cutter said excitedly, “this can lead us to predicting when an anomaly is going to occur and I need Sarah’s help, she’s staying,” he folded his arms and he glared at James.

“You and I are going to be talking about this later,” Lester glared at Becker, "your job is supposed to be providing security, this Is the exact opposite of providing security,"

"In my defence Sir" Becker said with a small nod. "My men and I were scouting the area to make sure there was no creature incursion."

"Yeah, it's not Becker's fault!" Connor said. "He was trying to keep us safe by checking for any sign of a creature or... Helen..." he said, his voice going quiet at saying her name.

"So everyone's already in agreement, why not ... it's not like anyone listens to a word I say anyway," Lester sighed and threw his hands up in the air in exasperation, "what's the point of being in charge of a top secret government organisation when people are going to get recruited off the street,"

Cutter grimaced, "to be fair James, we didn't recruit her off the street, she works at the British Museum,"

Lester looked at Cutter and opened his mouth to say something and then closed it and shook his head. He was getting another migraine...

"There WILL be a debriefing meeting and Ms whatever her name is will still need to be vetted and sign the Offical Secrets Act, for all the bloody good it has done us so far!"

"I have a name," Sarah glared at Lester, she really didn't like that this man was going to be her new boss, "and it's Dr. not ms ...Dr. Sarah Page, I've got the thesis on display at the British Museum to prove it,"

Cutter was beginning to see how Sarah nearly caused an international incident, he was liking her more and more by the minute and he couldn't stop the grin at her retort.

She was going to fit in just fine on the team.

"Yes yes, fine. Dr. Sarah Page. I guess... welcome to the team" Lester said with a sigh as he turned and started towards his office. He stopped and looked at Becker as he passed him. "And do try to keep this all from falling apart around us would you?"

Sarah couldn't help but grin at that, "so does that mean I'm on the team?" she said, "like for real?"

"Aye that it does!" Connor said with a grin. "Welcome to the ARC!"

Becker sighed and rubbed the bridge of his nose as Lester left. "Yay...: he said less than enthusiastically.

"Yes welcome to the team Sarah," Cutter smiled, "we'll have to wait until you're fully vetted before we can show you around but despite Lester's protests, I'm pretty sure he's already gotten the ball rolling with that one, it shouldn't be long at all before you're cleared,"

"And once you are, Cutter and I will show you around the place, It's going to be amazing!" Connor said with a grin, giving Becker a side glance as he watched the man slump into the nearest chair.

"Need me to get you a drink?" Connor asked.

"Yes, please. The strongest drink we have in the break room, Becker groaned."

Sarah laughed at that, "oh I can't wait to see my first proper anomaly," she grinned.

"You saw your first proper anomaly?" Cutter pointed out

"Yeah but I didn't see any kind of creatures coming through," she argued, "that anomaly was boring,"

Cutter shook his head, "be careful what you wish for," he said with a grin.

"Yeah... we dont say that too loud" Connor said with a laugh. "Though now that we are back at the ARC and I don't feel like Im gonna jinx us or anything... this was a lot easier than it was back in my timeline" Connor said slowly. "We had to deal with a Pristicampus!"

Sarah's eyes were wide, "no way," she breathed, "you dealt with a Pristicampus? I think we may have just found our first link between myth and anomaly, I think they may have inspired the Egyptian religion," she said excitedly.

Cutter looked curiously at Connor, he had never heard of Connor mention differences between their timelines before, "I wonder why things changed for us?" he considered.

Connor swallowed a little. He wasnt sure it was the right time or place, definitely not the right company, to start poking at the fact that his Cutter had been long dead by the time he cam to Fandom. So he just gave a small shrug.

"Maybe the fact that you decided to come to Fandom rather than stay here in London was enough to make the timelines shift a little?" He looked at Cutter, feeling bad about keeping things from him but he was still absolutely terrified about messing things up even further.

"But if what Sarah said is right, then the anomalies could be the origin for myths and legends around the world. Stories of gods and monsters could actually be confirmation of anomalies opening an closing!"

"Maybe," Cutter nodded, "I wonder what other changes have happened because I decided to go to Fandom?" he couldn't help but wonder.

Sorry Cutter that was a conversation for another time.

But then he focused on the rest of what Connor was saying, "I think that's definitely a good place to start," he said, "once you're vetted and have signed the official secrets act, I'd like you to get started on the research right away Sarah," Cutter told her.
