Professor Nick Cutter

Sarah's eyes were wide at that, "are you telling me this portal goes back to Ancient Egypt?" she all but fangirled at that, "maybe I could help, I'm an Egyptologist, I'm Dr. Sarah Page," she introduced herself.

"Professor Nick Cutter," Cutter replied, "this is Connor Temple and Captain Becker," he nodded back to Connor and Becker, "this work is very dangerous, are you sure you would not rather leave now while you had the chance?"

He already knew what her answer would be, he could recognise the same stubborn streak that he had in her.

This could definitely cause all sorts of problems later for sure.

Connor could have sworn he saw Becker facepalm just then for some reason....

"I mean if it is ancient Egypt then we're still looking at fairly normal creatures right? Hippo, crocs, birds, the usuals right?" Connor asked looking at Cutter and then Sarah.

"Unless some other anomaly has opened somewhere else also linking to this time," Becker said with a sigh. All this time hopping stuff gave him a headache. "I mean, couldn't there be another anomaly somewhere else also linking to ancient Egypt that goes back to prehistoric times? Something could come in through that anomaly and then end up coming through this one too?"

"It's possible there could be two anomalies," Cutter considered with a tilt of his head, he looked over at Sarah, "have there been any reports of anything strange or unusual happening at the museum lately ... any unexplained attacks or deaths?"

From:

"Unexpected attacks or deaths?" Sarah reacted, looking a bit incredulous. "Oh yeah sure we schedule those regularly and there's been nothing out of the ordinary there... No, there haven't been any attacks or deaths in the Museum!"

"You know you could have just said," Cutter's lips twitched a little, "so we may need to do another sweep of the museum, in case there's a second anomaly or even one outside ..." he hesitated, "I'm not going back through the front way though," he said looking at Connor and Becker as he did.

"I'll do a sweep of the building" Becker said signalling for the men, who had joined them by this point after being instructed to come in some other way than the front entrance, to start searching the place. "The three of you stay and make sure nothing comes through!"

"So this is what you guys do?" Sarah tilted her head at the anomaly as Becker left the room to do the sweep, "you chase anomalies and stop creatures from coming through?"

"Something like that," Cutter nodded.

"Do you have any way of tracking when an anomaly will appear?" Sarah wondered, "I mean ... its seems pretty risky leaving it to chance like this,"

"We're working on that, actually. Trying to find a way to predict at least where and then hopefully when, an anomaly might appear" Connor said. "We're also working on a way to lock the anomaly to keep anything from coming through, but that is proving to be more difficult than we thought at first."

Lester was likely facepalming somewhere just then and Jenny was probably starting to get a headache.

"Well have you considered an historical approach?" Sarah couldn't help but wonder, "I mean, if these anomalies link to the past ... then there's got to be a connection right? Myths and legends ... every myth starts because there's some element of truth right?"

Cutter tilted his head at that, "actually that might not be a bad idea," he considered.

Official Secrets Act? Oh that thing Connor had never had much luck adhering to.... right....

"If anomalies have been opening up for all of earth's history.... then that could explain monster sightings and fanciful creatures," Connor said, his eyes going a little wide. "It's not aliens or anything... it's the anomalies. Thats where the sightings of things like the Lochness Monster, Yetties, and mythical gods have come from!"

And now Cutter was beginning to see all the possibilities as he studied that anomaly, "if we can start matching up anomalies with the myths ... maybe we can begin to form patterns ... we can start predicting the anomalies ..." and then he turned to Sarah, "how do you feel about having a new job?"

Yes Lester was definitely face palming right now.

"I mean I've been working in Egyptology and Mythology for a decade now" Sarah said. "My dissertation on myths and legends of the ancient world is here at the museum, actually."

"Oh that is blood brilliant" Connor said with a grin. "She definitely stays!"

"Hey, do I actually get a say in any of this?" Sarah asked, though there was a grin on her face as she asked.

"I mean we'll have to get you vetted, you'll have to sign the Official Secrets Act but I'm sure between the three of us we can convince our boss to hire you," Cutter said excitedly and then paused as he considered that last question, "I mean you can stay here if you'd like, banished to the basement of the British Museum for the rest of your life or you can come work with us ...and be part of this," he indicated to the anomaly.

Connor gave Sarah a look that clearly said, "are you crazy take the offer" and gave Sarah a grin.

Sarah thought for a moment, considered Cutter and Connor, looked back at the anomaly, and then grinned.

"Alright, I'm in!" she declared excitedly.

"Welcome aboard," Cutter grinned, "we'll tell Becker when he comes back and then we can tell our boss and start the process to get you hired, I want you to start straight away, processing all the different myths and linking an anomaly to the myth,"

From:

"Don't ask about getting a snazzy cool nickname or anything. Cutter doesn't give those out" Connor said with a disappointed sigh as he gave Cutter a small wink and a grin.

Cutter shook his head, "we're not that kind of gang," he smirked at that and returned the wink that Connor gave him, "but thank you Dr. Page, having you onboard will definitely help us,"

"Please call me Sarah," Sarah told them, "if we're going to be working together, you can call me Sarah," she smiled.

"Glad to have you with us Sarah" Connor said with a smile. "Will be nice to have someone else who's a bit of a nerd on the ream.... And i mean that in the most respectful way possible!!!!"

Sarah laughed, "well I never thought this was going to happen when I woke up the morning, finding out there's anomalies that link back to ancient Egypt and then getting a new job in a secret government department,"

"That's ... more or less how we got involved, well Connor ... uh ... my Connor, told me about anomalies and monster sighters and the next thing I know I'm signing the official secrets act,"

Sorry Sarah, you didn't think that the weirdness was going to stop at anomalies and secret government department did you?

"Wait... your Connor? This... isn't the Connor you mean?" Sarah asked, confused as she looked from Cutter to Connor. "Wait.... are... are you saying that not only are there... these anomaly links to different times... but there are also different timelines and realities too?"

Cutter realised that he definitely should have given more warning before he talked about the different Connor’s, “are yeah so there’s two Connor’s, I met Connor,” and he indicated to Connor who was next to him, “at the school we both teach at and the Connor back at the ARC, i met when he came up to me and …” his voice trailed off, not quite willing to talk about Stephen, “it’s …well it’s a bit of a long story,” he said sheepishly.

"Basically, there are two versions of me running around yes. There's me, and then one back at the ARC. We share similar timelines to a.... certain point," Connor said also not quite willing to go into details on how his own version of things had totally changed the day his Nick had died. "But there's a lot of differences too" he said giving a small smile to Cutter.

"We used to date a while," Cutter said with a small smile as he looked over at Connor, even though he couldn't help but wonder if maybe Sarah already knew these details or if she happened to be the one person in the UK who didn't know who they were ... maybe they should disclose that to her before she fully accepted the job offer, "but I never dated my Connor," he explained.

Connor nodded, a soft somewhat sad smile on his face. "It's easiest to think of it like identical twins" he said. "We look the same but we have different experiences and slightly different personalities and interests and have made different choices and all..." Yeah if Sarah knew who they were she was doing a very good job of not bombarding them with questions or accusations.
