MHA #16 - Saturday Morning

It had been hard but somehow both Cutter and Connor had managed to behave at Prom until they’d ended up making it back to Cutter’s flat and then ended up having a lot of fun taking off those very nice, very expensive suits and ended up back in the bedroom.

Now it was morning and Cutter was just taking the time to enjoy cuddling up with Connor in the bed, last night had been nice and now he was looking forward to spending the rest of the weekend with Connor and spending as much time with him as he could.

[for the boyfriend, who is modded with permission as well as the eventual visitors]

“I know right,” Cutter said with a warm smile, “this is …I never thought…it’s wow,” he finally stammered, “Teddy and Tabby,” his smile widened, “they’re amazing,”

"They are definitely something" Connor agreed with a warm smile of his own.

"Shall we go see what the island has in store for us this time around?" Connor asked as he leaned over and gave Cutter a quick kiss.

“It sounds like a plan,” Cutter smiled, “and we should probably make sure they’re okay in the kitchen, even though it seems like Tabby knows what she’s doing,” he couldn’t help but wonder where she learned to cook.

Connor gave a thoughtful look for a moment then shrugged. It clearly wasn't from either of them, that was for sure.

"Yeah, probably best to make sure Teddy isn't getting into anything. Little man has mischife written all over him."

Because of course, it took one to know one!

Cutter smiled at that, “I think he might take after his papi there,” he said slightly teasing, “I couldn’t imagine where he would learn to get into such mischief,”

That was a bit said the pot to the kettle Cutter, you weren’t completely off the hook either.

"Oh and I am sure he just loathes spending time with Da-Da so he certainly hasn't worn off on him any at all" Connor said with a wink.

"Did all the serious sides rub off and Tabby and poor Teddy get what was left?"

That was part of it ... but only part of it, Connor.

Cutter just winked at that, “I have no idea what you’re talking about,” he said with a completely innocent expression.

He then frowned slightly at the last part “ I’m not sure, there’s something familiar about her expression…I’m seen that before, and that eye roll …if I didn’t know better …I could have sworn she’s the spitting image of Helen?”

Which felt weird to think about.

"Well, there's really no telling what other reality the island could be showing us...." Connor ventured slowly after a moment's thought. "Maybe.... Tabby is what you and Helen may have ended up with if... well... you know..." he said with a small smile.

“I suppose it’s possible that in one reality Helen and I …well had a child together,” he paused, “maybe our marriage was better in that reality?” or Helen had simply followed the same path she did and instead of just abandoning Cutter nearly 9 years ago, she had abandoned their daughter as well.

But he didn’t want to voice that theory out loud.

Connor watched Cutter for a moment, knowing him well enough of course to know where his mind was likely going when what he was choosing not to say out loud just then.

He reached out and pulled him close and into a hug. "Hey, at least you get to enjoy her now, that's what matters right?" he said. "We get the chance to see what some 'might have beens' get to be like," he added with a soft smile.

A voice from down the hallway ended anything else he was about to say, replacing them stead with stuttering blushes.

"Dad? Quit snogging Pops! Breakfast is ready!"

Cutter could only nod as he gratefully accepted that hug, he held into that embrace as long as he could ..,

Then he went bright red at that last part as he reluctantly let go of Connor slightly, “well I think we’re being summoned,” he managed to grin.

"Aye," Connor said as he reluctantly let go, his own face a bit red as well. "It's gonna be ok Nick" he said with a reassuring grin as he grabbed hold of his hand and headed down the hall towards the sound he didn't think would ever be something he'd be hearing- happy kids laughing.

Cutter smiled softly at that as he took Connor’s hand and followed him out of the room, as strange as this all was it was still a nice feeling.

“It smells incredible,” Cutter remarked as the smell wafted towards them, and he felt just a little guilty that Tabby seemed to be the only one who could actually cook out of all of them.

"So, what delicious delight have you whipped up for us Tabby? It smells amazing" Connor said as they walked into the kitchen.

He gave Cutter's hand a gentle squeeze. That was until Teddy came bounding over, asking to be picked up. Reluctantly, Connor let go of Cutter's hand and scooped up the boy up, with a grin.

It was different.... a bit odd. But nice. Really nice. He didn't think something like this would ever be anything remotely possible for him.... but now... Connor found himself breaking into a warm smile as he looked over at Cutter.

“I made the whole works, I know how much you both like breakfast,” Tabby smiled, “I made bacon, eggs, sausages, hash browns, fried tomato and onion, Uncle James says that breakfast is the most important meal of the day and you need to have a lot of it,” Tabby said with a proud smile at what she had cooked.


That made Cutter pause, “Uncle James?” he repeated, looking from Tabby to Connor at that.

Uncles James. THAT was one Connor hadn't expected to hear. And it was definitely more proof of alternate realities because he was pretty sure there was no way the Lester they knew was a fan of kids.

"Well, it all looks and smells amazing, Tabby..." Connor said with a grin that turned into a laugh as Teddy leaned over and snagged a piece of bacon off the plate with a grin.

Tabby merely rolled her eyes at the ‘Uncle James’ part, “I spent a lot of time at the Home Office and the Arc” she told them, “Uncle James taught me how to cook, he wanted to make sure at least someone in the family could cook a nutritional meal and we spend a lot of time together, he even takes me out with his kids when they’re together sometimes,” she smiled at those memories.

Then she watched Teddy take a slice of bacon of pops plate, “Teddy, there’s enough food to go round, you don’t need to take everyone else’s food,” she told him and there was another roll of her eyes, she was really good at that.

Cutter tilted his head with a smile, he was pretty sure now that some of that eye rolling has been learnt from Lester.

Teddy just stuck his tongue out at Tabby and laughed as he finished the piece he had snitched.

Connor watched as he scrambled out of his arms and ran around to the other side of the table and plopped down. Had he had that much energy when he was little? (Connor, you had that much energy now- who were you kidding?)

As Connor watched Teddy and Tabby, he had to wonder what the story was. Tabby was pretty obviously Cutter and Helen's kid. He had his suspicions about Teddy, but there were still a few scenarios that could have happened.

All Connor did know for sure was he was happy. This... the whole family thing... with Nick... it was all he had ever wanted.

"Da-Da! Is Rex still here?" Teddy asked excitedly.

Cutter smiled, “Rex is still here,” he assured Teddy, “he’s over at your papi’s flat, I’m sure we could bring him over though if you’d like to see him,” he looked up at Connor with a smile as he said it.

"Aye I can definitely bring him over for a visit" Connor smiled. "Rex has been getting a little restless so I am sure he would love the company for a bit.

Connor stood as both Teddy and Tabby cheered.

"Figures.. Rex is still more popular than your own parents" Connor laughed as he looked over at Cutter. That word "parent" lingering a bit as a big smile spread over his face.

Cutter couldn’t help but laugh at seeing Teddy and Tabby so excited about Rex, “well it is kind of hard to compete with Rex,” he returned that fond smile, enjoying how nice it was to hear the word parent, he really could get used to this.

Yeah, Rex was always the popular one so he couldn't blame the kids.

"Well think ya can manage the ruffians for a few minutes while I go grab the guest of honor, Dad?" he asked with a small wink.

Cutter smiled at that, “I think I can manage to keep us out of trouble for a few minutes, right?” he looked at Tabby and Teddy.

Tabby rolled her eyes again, “I’ll make sure to keep everyone out of trouble, pops,” she assured Connor.

She knew all too well how quickly her dad could manage to get in trouble.

"That's my girl," Connor said with a grin. "I won't be too long."

And with a glance over his shoulder, as if he was afraid all of this would be gone when he got back, Connor headed across the hall to round up Rex.

Cutter smiled as he took a moment to just appreciate how nice this was and he managed, luckily Teddy seemed mostly interested in finishing his breakfast and looking forward to Rex visiting so everything was still the same when Connor came back.
