MHA #13 - Saturday Afternoon

It had been a long couple of weeks since Connor had unexpectedly had to head back home to help Phillip and his team but now Cutter had received word that Connor was able to come back today and he couldn't help but pace nervously as he waited for Connor, his portal would be due any moment.

Rex was chirping expectantly as he waited by the door for Connor.

"I know Rex, it won't be too much longer, Connor will be back very soon," Cutter promised.

To say the last few weeks had been a whirlwind would have been an understatement. Phillip had been insistent on him helping with the current anomaly research and wouldn't take no for an answer.

Connor hated leaving on such short notice and even more so the fact he had been kept so busy he barely had time to touch base much with Cutter. But that was all over and done now and he was finally back in Fandom.

He hesitated outside the door to their apartment then gave a knock before opening the door. "Nick? I'm back" he called out as he walked in.

The relief Cutter felt was immediate as he went over to the door and went to give Connor a hug, "welcome back," he said, "I've missed you so much,"

Rex circled around the feet chirping excitedly now that Connor was back.

Connor grinned broadly as he returned the hug, holding on tight, not wanting to let go just yet- it had been far too long!

"Missed you so much, Nick! Didnt think I would be gone that long" Connor sighed as he rested his head against his fiance's shoulder, still hugging him tightly.

Cutter wasn't going to complain about that, holding on as tightly as he could to Connor, "I know we agreed to work for Philip I just didn't think you'd have to go soon," Cutter admitted as he kept that hug going, "but you're here now, that's what matters,"

Connor nodded as he slowly loosened the hold just a little and looked down at Rex, who was still circling their feet, chirpping happily.

"Aye, all started happening sooner than we expected, but I'm back now, that is what matters!" Connor smiled and looked back at Cutter. "You two been managing ok without me?" he asked with a small wink,

Cutter smiled as he stayed close to Connor, enjoying the two of them being together again, "it's been hard, but we've managed to keep the place together haven't we Rex," Rex gave a chirp as he went to rub against Connor's ankle, "we both missed you,"

Connor finally broke the hug and grinned at Cutter then down to Rex and chuckled. "Glad you guys managed; hopefully, I won't be called away THAT long again for a while."

He slipped an arm around Cutter and held one arm out for Rex who gave a happy chip and jumped up and sat on his shoulder. "It is good to be back home that is for sure."

Cutter smiled, "I hope so, it wasn't the same without you here," he said as he leaned against Connor, "you know we should do something to celebrate you being back, we could order some takeout or something, what would you like to get?" he asked.

"You know that sounds amazing" Connor said as he gave Cutter a squeeze then reached up and gave Rex head scritches. "Delivery would be good...and I hate to say it but, I've been living on Chinese takeout while I was gone..." he gave a small sheepish look at Cutter. "So maybe... pizza and wings this time?"

Cutter smiled, “we can definitely do pizza and wings,” he nodded as he returned the squeeze, “what flavour pizza were you thinking?”

"How about pineapple and ham and then a supreme for the pizza? ANd maybe an order of garlic parm and an order of buffalo for the wings? ANd of course soda to drink!" Connor smiled as he started walking towards the living room, Cutter's hand in his as he fished in his pocket with the other for his phone.

Cutter smiled at that as he held Connor's hand, "that sounds absolutely perfect, a perfect way to welcome you back home, maybe even later we could get special drinks from the Perk they've got all the fall drinks in now," he told Connor.

"Oh, I had almost forgotten about the Perk's drinks. That would be amazing. Drinks and little something sweet to finish up dinner!"

Connor sat down on the couch, giving Cutter's hand a little tug, and flashed a grin, inviting him to join him as he started pulling menus up on his phone.

"That's what I was thinking," Cutter nodded with a grin as he went to sit down next to Connor, "we can get one of the pastries or something like that for dessert as well, really go all out of it and then any leftovers from the pizza we can have for lunch tomorrow," he suggested.

"Like the way you think. Knew there was a reason we got engaged," Connor said with a wink and a laugh. A few minutes later he set the phone on the coffee table and smiled. "Ok order is in- should be here in about 30 minutes!"

Cutter laughed as well as he settled into the couch, "sounds perfect, it will be nice getting to have dinner with you again, the flat hasn't been the same without you here,"

"It was definitely lonely in the lab. Phillip is... intense at times. I missed the quiet of a morning in bed, laying curled up against you, and just relaxing the day away" Connor said with a smile and gave Cutter a small kiss. "It is so good to be home."

"I wish I could have been there to help you, even though I know I wouldn't have been much help with all that technology," Cutter said as he returned that kiss, "I'm looking forward to getting to spend more time with you,"

"Im glad I was able to step in and do this... I... don't want Philip getting too close to you. Not yet at least. I'm still trying to get a feel for where we are in the timeline" Connor leaned his head ahinst Cutters and sighed. "Theres still a lot I'm trying to figure out and figure out what to do. I want you safe Nick... above anything else" he said as he leaned in closer and kissed Cutter again.

"I just wish you didn't have to be put in harms way though," Cutter said softly as he leaned in and kissed Connor, "I love you so much Connor,"

"I know. I'm being careful, I promise," Connor said as he returned the kiss and pulled Cutter closer. "I just can't stand the thought of ever losing you again."

"I know, I just can't help but worry, especially if Phillip were to find out what we were up to ... I don't want to lose you either Connor," Cutter said softly as he leaned in close to Connor.

"Not gonna happen. I'm going to make sure things are different this time. I promise" Connor said softly as he shifted on the couch and pulled Cutter closer, breaking the kiss but not wanting to let him go just then.

Cutter leaned in close to Connor, not wanting to let go either, "we're going to get through this," he promised, "we'll find out what Phillip's up to and stop him, and then we'll be able to work on that future together that we've talked about,"

"Aye, that is what I keep looking for, what I keep thinking about. It is what kept me going and is what keeps me going now. We will get that future together... you and me... and Rex," he added with a laugh as Rex looked up from where he had curled up on the end of the couch and gave a small 'me too?' sort of chirp.

Cutter grinned at that, "aye and Rex too," he nodded, "it will be absolutely perfect, once we get through this next bit, we can settle down and focus on teaching and getting married and getting to spend the rest of our lives together," he said happily.

Connor smiled as he leaned back against the couch, keeping an arm around Cutter, resting his head on his shoulder as he did. "I thought a lot about that- our future, here, together. Kept me going when it got lonely in the lab and when I started to worry about what was happening with Phillip. Reminded me that as long as I have you, I have everything I need."

Cutter leaned against Connor, content to just sit there and enjoy being with his fiancé, "and you are everything I need," he said, "in the end it will all be worth it, us getting to be together,"

Connor smiled and he closed his eyes, snuggling close to Cutter and sighing contentedly. "I am here for all of it. Can't wait to do it all...with you."

Connor opened his eyes when there was a knock on the door. "starting with the welcome back dinner we have planned."

Cutter grinned at that, "aye," he smiled, "dinner first," he agreed as he reluctantly moved to get up off the couch, "I'll go and get the food for us," he told Connor.

Connor reluctantly sat back on the couch as Cutter went to get the food, laughing as Rex was quick to crawl into Cutter's place and curl up as if he was asleep. Connor watched Cuter get the food and gently petted Rex's head as he 'slept' there beside him.

Cutter got the food and tipped the delivery driver before heading back to the living room with the pizza and the wings, "and we have the food to celebrate," he smiled as he saw Rex sleeping in his spot, "I think Rex is enjoying himself," he said as he went to put the food down.
