MHA #13 - Saturday Morning

When Cutter woke up Saturday morning, he realised that he wasn’t at his usual home but he didn’t think anything of it and instead got up to explore this new place that he had ended up in. Eventually he decided he wanted breakfast but then realised that he wasn’t tall enough to reach the cabinets, that was when he spotted something much more exciting than breakfast.

“Oh wow a dinosaur!” he exclaimed as he spotted Rex who was happily chirping and eating from his food bowl, all thoughts of breakfast momentarily forgotten.

[for one and up early for SP!]

"Rex is an omnivore mostly herbivore. That means he eats a little of everything but mostly plants. He loves salad" Connor said as he smiled and reached over and gave Rex head scritches.

"While I get these pancakes started, Nick, there should be a container in the fridge with salad. Can you find that for me so Rex can have his breakfast?"

Cutter nodded, "I can do that," he assured Connor as Rex climbed onto his shoulders so that he could open the fridge and get out the container that Connor mentioned, "I found it," he said triumphantly as he pulled out the the container, "where does Rex like to eat his food?" he said as he looked around for a spot that he could put it down for Rex.

While the fridge was open Connor grabbed the milk ad eggs and then went to the pantry for the box of pancake mix.

"Aye you found it. Rex likes to eat on the floor over on his mat" Connor nodded towards the two bowls sitting on the kitchen floor. "You can also fill the one with some fresh water for him if you want."

"Okay, come on Rex," Cutter said eagerly as he led them over to where Rex's mat was and placed the salad in one of the bowls, Rex chirped happily and eagerly flew down to the bowl and began to eat it at, "I'll fill up the water," he told Connor as he picked up the other bowl and carefully held it under as he began to fill it up, "like this?" he asked, checking to make sure that he was doing it right.

"You are a natural Nick! You sure you arent already taking care of dinosaurs in your spare time?" Conor asked with a chuckle.

He started the batter for the pancakes and smiled as he watched Rex and Nick, not able to help but think about other interactions they had had and wondering if Rex sensed this was the same Nick he liked so much, just a little smaller.

Cutter giggled, "no, Rex is the only dinosaur I've ever met," he admitted, "I always wanted a pet but mum and dad don't want them, they're too busy," he said softly, "but Rex is really cool," he said as he watched Rex happily drink and eat his breakfast.

"Well, I bet someday you are going to be a dinosaur, genius! You are a natural already" Connor said, earning a happy chirp from Rex.

"That would be amazing!" Cutter grinned, "I want to learn everything there is to know about dinosaurs," he declared, "and be a pal ... a pal...I want to study dinosaurs," he finished when he realised he couldn't say the word palaeontologist.

Connor laughed and put a hand on Nick's shoulder and the reached for the bag of chocolate chips to dump them in the bowl. "You study hard you will be great at it! I've always loved dinosaurs too. They are amazing arent they?"

Cutter grinned at that as he watched Connor grab the chocolate chips, "they're amazing," he agreed, "I always liked the Brac...Brachi...the long neck dinosaur," he revealed shyly, "they're my favourite, what's your favourite dinosaur?" he asked curiously.

"Oh the brachiosaurus are really cool- biggest creature to ever live. I have always thought the Dilophosaurus was cool! And for non-dinos... Trilobites are really neat." Connor grinned as he watched Nick and held out the bag to pour some of the chips into his hands.

"Tri...trilo...trilobites," Cutter repeated as he sounded out the word and he eagerly held out his hands for some chocolate chips, "I don 't think I've come across them yet, the sound really cool though," he told Connor.
