The Cretaceous

[itsananomaly]

Cutter had lost track of how long they had been in the Cretaceous ... he was pretty sure it had been a few months at least and there was still no sign of the anomaly opening. He was starting to lose hope that the anomaly site would reopen and they would be stuck here for good. For the time being it was just him and Connor at the camp, everyone else was busy either doing patrols of hunting and foraging for dinner that night. "Do you think they'll be able to find some rabbit for tonight?" he asked quietly, the last few nights had been raining and they'd been relying on berries for their meal. [preplayed with the amazing anomaly_research_nerd. NFB for distance but OOC welcome!]

Connor(anomaly_research_nerd)	"I sure hope so.... I don't know how many more berries I can eat..." And Connor wasn't going to mention it but he had heard Danny and Becker talking the other night. The berries were likely going to go out of season soon so they wouldn't even have those to fall back on for much longer. Connor shivered slightly in the cool damp air and reached out to put another small branch into the fire to make sure it didn't go out.
Cutter(itsananomaly)	"I know," Cutter said softly as he huddled close to Connor to try and keep warm, "I mean I'm grateful we at least have the berries to eat but I could definitely go for something else," he sighed, "I think the first thing I want to eat when we get back is Chinese," he said wistfully. He knew he shouldn't think about all the comforts from home that they were missing out on but sometimes he couldn't help it.
Connor(anomaly_research_nerd)	Connor gave a small grin, his stomach growling at the thought of Chinese food. "That and then the very next thing, a big juicy burger and fries..." He gave a sigh as he leaned his head against Cutter's shoulder and then reached his hand out slowly and laced his fingers with Cutter's. He looked at the ring on his hand and smiled as he squeezed his hand gently.
Cutter(itsananomaly)	Cutter smiled as he held Connor's hand, giving it a tight squeeze as he leaned against Connor, "aye, the biggest burger we can find and all the fries," he said as he imagined all the foods they could eat, "it will be nice being able to be back at the house and start working towards our future," he said fondly as he noticed Connor looking at his ring.
Connor(anomaly_research_nerd)	Connor nodded silently. He wanted to get back more than anything, He wanted to be home, with Cutter, living their lives... their own lives on their terms for once. He knew he was lucky to have him there. He had not been alone the last time he had been stuck in the past He had had Abby with him and he was thankful to have Danny and Becker and Cutter here now. But, he was still worried and that fear kept creeping up on him at times. He sighed softly and rubbed his thumb over the back of cutter's hand. "I'm so ready for all of it."
Cutter(itsananomaly)	"Me too," Cutter smiled fondly at Connor rubbing his hand, "we'll truly be able to move on with our lives now that all the main threats are gone," he said, not even entertaining the thought that someone could be worse than Helen, Christine or Wilder, "we can work on moving back to Fandom and teaching again like we've been talking about,"
Connor(anomaly_research_nerd)	"Get settled back in, get that job now that school is done, make a life for ourselves..." Connor smiled and gave Cutter's hand a squeeze. "And it will be good to see everyone else too. I know they have to be worried... looking for a way to find us... I hope" he said softly.
Cutter(itsananomaly)	Cutter nodded as he returned the hand squeeze, "aye, it will be good to see everyone, I'm sure they're doing everything they can to try and find us, they must have worked out what happened, that we ended up in an anomaly," he considered.
Connor(anomaly_research_nerd)	"Abby and Connor probably figured it out pretty quickly" Connor said with a small smile. "Letser is probably putting everything he has to figuring out what to do to find us... and Sarah..." Connor looked over at Becker sadly. He knew there was a lot on Becker's mind and he hadn't talked much about the team other than trying to get back home, but he knew Becker was missing Sarah.
Cutter(itsananomaly)	Cutter followed Connor's gaze, feeling bad for Becker, "Lester will be making sure that Sarah has the best care, she's going to be alright, they all will be," he said softly, really hoping that was the case.
Connor(anomaly_research_nerd)	"Aye they are a good team. I know they will be fine... they have to be fine" he said softly. "We'll get back to them soon enough and then we'll be a team again and can do everything we've been wanting to do. Though... I am not sure I am going to be walking through anymore anomalies after this..."
Cutter(itsananomaly)	Cutter nodded, "I know what you mean," he agreed softly, "I don't think I'll be wanting to go through any anomalies either," he said and then hesitated, "I ... I don't think I want to do any more field work after everything," he admitted.
Connor(anomaly_research_nerd)	Connor looked at Cutter sadly and slipped an arm around his shoulder. He knew how much Cutter had been wrestling withe everything during their recovery. He could blame him for not wanting to do it anymore. "I know... I'm not sure it's what I want anymore either... I... I think I want to stay behind the scenes, helping Lester and Jenny and Sarah... focusing on us and our future together. The... the anomalies brought us together in a way, but... I don't want them tearing us apart."
Cutter(itsananomaly)	Cutter leaned against Connor, "I don't want them to tear us apart either," he said softly, "I think ... after everything, and now with Danny being the team leader, its time for me to step back, spend time on us ... I still want to help where I can but I don't want to be in the field anymore,"
Connor(anomaly_research_nerd)	"They got a lot of good people now... Danny and Becker... Abby and Connor... they will be fine if we step back a bit. And I agree, after everything... I want to focus on us" Connor said as he lifted Cutter's hand and gave it a quick soft kiss.
Cutter(itsananomaly)	Cutter smiled at that, "aye, I think they can manage without us, we can focus on being together and getting back to our lives like we've talked about, I'm really looking forward to just getting to be us for a while," he added.
Connor(anomaly_research_nerd)	Connor smiled and leaned closer to Cutter and rested his head against his shoulder,still holding his hand. "Aye... our lives... our future, together. Starting with that wedding..." he said with a grin as he looked up at Cutter.
Cutter(itsananomaly)	Cutter smiled fondly at that as leaned against Connor, giving his hand a gentle squeeze, "I definitely like the sound of that, I'm looking forward to planning our wedding, the future we've talked about,"
Connor(anomaly_research_nerd)	Connor smiled, enjoying just being there with Cutter, thinking about something other than being stuck in the past. A thought came to his mind and he smiled softly, wondering if he could bring it up or not. After a few moments of sitting quietly, he rubbed Cutter's hand gently and then looked back over at him. "I cant wait to see what the future holds for us... maybe even... I mean I know Tammy and Teddy wont ever happen for us in this timeline most likely.. but... maybe... someday... there might be kids in the picture?" Connor was quiet, a small smile on his face as he looked at Cutter.
Cutter(itsananomaly)	Cutter returned that smile as he held onto Connor's hand, "I would like that very much," he told Connor, "getting married and having kids, its perfect,"
Connor(anomaly_research_nerd)	A smile, one of the first real smiles that he'd had in a while, spread over Connor's face at that and he leaned in close to Cutter. "A family of our own, just like we always wanted. Sounds absolutely perfect...I cant wait to have it all with you Nick."
Cutter(itsananomaly)	"And all I need is you," Cutter said softly, "you make me so very happy Connor and to be able to have everything we talked about, marriage, kids ... I'm going to do everything to make sure we have that future," he promised.
Connor(anomaly_research_nerd)	"And so will I Nick.... we are getting that future. I'm going to make sure of it too" Connor nodded as he pulled Cutter close and hugged him tightly.
Cutter(itsananomaly)	Cutter smiled as he held Connor tightly, "we're going to get that future," he repeated, "we're going to get through this and we're going to get that future, I love you so much Connor,"
Connor(anomaly_research_nerd)	"I love you too Nick, more now than ever" Connor said softly as he leaned in closer. There hadn't been a lot of time for hugs or kisses with everything going on but Connor couldn't help himself as he leaned in and kissed Cutter softly. "I love you now and I love you always."
Cutter(itsananomaly)	Cutter was definitely not going to argue against kissing, especially since they didn't get to get moments like this when they were alone in the camp and he happily returned the kiss, "and I will always love you," he said softly.
Connor(anomaly_research_nerd)	Connor kept the kiss going for a little longer before pulling back, resting his head against Cutters. "Right now what we have... I promise to make the most of it. And we will get that future together too. I promise Nick. I love you" he whispered before kissing the top of Cutter's head and wrapping his arms around his fiance. He knew the others would be back soon most likely but he didn't care. All he wanted to think about was that moment right then with the man he loved.
Cutter(itsananomaly)	"And I promise too, now and always, I love you Connor," Cutter smiled as Connor pulled back from the kiss and he leaned his head against Connor's, enjoying just how nice this moment was between them, he knew they didn't have long before the others would be back but he just wanted to enjoy this for as long as he could.
Connor(anomaly_research_nerd)	Connor gently rubbed Cutter's back and smiled. In the distance, he heard voices but he didn't move just yet. It wasn't until he could hear that is was Danny and Becker talking and heard what they were saying that he reluctantly let go of Cutter, gave him a soft kiss then pulled back, glancing over as the others walked into the camp.
Cutter(itsananomaly)	Cutter reluctantly let go of Connor but he still stayed as closed as he could as everyone came back into the camp, he looked over at the others, trying to see if they had managed to be successful with their hunting and foraging, "how did it go?" he asked as he looked over at them.
Stephen(anomaly_research_nerd)	Stephen looked at them and gave Cutter and Connor a small nod and a faint brief smile as he walked by,heading back to his usual side of the camp. "Caught a couple of rabbits and I managed to snare a bird. We'll have meat for the next couple of nights hopefully."
Cutter(itsananomaly)	Cutter gave a small smile at that, "thank you," he said softly, "it will be nice to have something else to eat other than berries for a change," he said and then looked over at Danny, "no offence," he said as he looked at the bowl of berries that Danny was carrying. "None taken," Danny said a grin at that.
Connor(anomaly_research_nerd)	Connor smiled as he met Stephen's gaze as he walked by. He still wasn't sure he wanted to talk to him or be around him much, but he was grateful for Stephen saying and helping them and taking care of them- best that he could- while they tried to wait for the anomaly. He gave a small nod and smile. "Yes, thank you... Stephen."
Cutter(itsananomaly)	Cutter reached out to take Connor's hand, knowing that talking to Stephen. even the small amount that he was was a huge step for him and he wanted Connor to know he was there for him. "Well I think we can start getting dinner ready," Danny nodded as he surveyed the campfire, "we'll start cleaning the rabbits and bird and then we'll be able to start cooking them,"
Connor(anomaly_research_nerd)	Connor looked at Cutter and returned the small squeeze a grateful look on his face. He then slowly turned and looked at Danny and Becker. "We can help get the fire going and ready while you do" he offer, knowing neither of them were going to be any good and cleaning and preparing but they could make sure the fire and everything else was ready when Danny and Becker were ready.
Cutter(itsananomaly)	Cutter held onto Connor's hand as he nodded in agreement about helping with the fire. "That would be great thank you," Danny smiled gratefully, "Stephen, Becker and I can take care of cleaning the food and washing the berries," he said as he looked over at Becker and Stephen to see what they thought.
Connor(anomaly_research_nerd)	"Sounds like a plan" Becker nodded in agreement with a small smile. "Gives us all something to do. And hopefully another uneventful night means some good rest and some better news in the morning." Connor nodded at that and managed a small smile. It was basically what Becker said every night before they headed off for their shifts and to try and sleep- wishes for an uneventful night, good rest, and a better day when the sun came out. It had become something of a mantra for them and in a small way Connor found some comfort in the familiarity of it.
Cutter(itsananomaly)	Cutter smiled softly at that as well, "maybe tomorrow will be the day the anomaly site opens," he nodded in agreement as they prepared to go about their tasks for the evening.
Connor(anomaly_research_nerd)	"We can hope" Becker said as he grabbed what he needed and followed after Stephen to start working on getting their dinner ready. Connor smiled and gave Cutter's hand a small squeeze before he stood and headed towards the small pile of branches and kindling they had gathered at the edge of the campsite. "Think a couple bigger branches should hold us for a good bit and get the fire good for cooking up dinner. You want to grab some ofk the smaller branches and stuff we can use for kindling as we need, Nick?"
Cutter(itsananomaly)	"I can definitely do that," Cutter told Connor as he went to pick up the smaller branches, making sure that there was enough to use for the fire, "how does all of this look?" he asked as he showed what he had gathered in his hands.
Connor(anomaly_research_nerd)	"Should be perfect, thanks"Connor replied as he gave a smile and headed back to the fire with the few larger branches in his arms. "If we need to grab a few more later we can bring them over closer so whoever is on shift won't need to go as far to get them tonight."
Cutter(itsananomaly)	Cutter returned the smile as he followed Connor back to the fire, "that sounds great," he told Connor as he held onto his branches so that they were ready once the fire got going, "at least we'll have a good meal tonight with the rabbits and the bird," he said, his stomach growling a little as he realised how hungry he was.
Connor(anomaly_research_nerd)	Connor knelt down by the fire and added on a few of the branches and watched for a moment to see if they would need some more or not. "Aye a good dinner will definitely help make sleep a little easier tonight" he agreed. Once he was convinced the fire was good for the time behind he put the rest of the branches aside and then sat down at his usual spot and nodded for Cutter to join him while they waited.
Cutter(itsananomaly)	Cutter smiled as he walked over to Connor and sat down in front of the fire, waiting for Becker, Stephen and Danny to be finished with the food for the evening. He took a moment to enjoy just how nice it was sitting in front of the fire and being with Connor and he tried to focus on that and not whether or not the anomaly would be open tomorrow.
