MHA #16 - Thursday Afternoon

It had been a few days since Connor had left for his trip and Cutter had been looking after Rex, he had mostly stuck to his flat, making sure that Rex was behaving himself as best as Rex could. The only time he had left his flat had been yesterday when he had ended up being roped into the shenanigans … which he was still a little unsure of with how much of these activities seemed to be water based and he wondered if maybe he should stop going to them for a while.

He sat on the couch, Rex was somewhere in the flat and Cutter had made himself a cup of coffee and sat down on the couch to start working on class plans, so that there would be something for him and Connor to work on when Connor came back. At least this time round would be better and as he worked on the initial lesson plans, he found himself really missing Connor.

At some point Rex got tired of sleeping in the sunbeam, chasing a fly around the house, or whatever it was he had been doing and he trotted out into the living room. He stopped in front of the couch an looked up at Cutter, giving a small chirp as he did.

Cutter gave a smile at Rex's chirp, "hey Rex," he said as he put down his papers to bend down and give Rex some scritches, "have you come to help me do lesson plans?"

Rex gave a happy chirp at the scritches. He then jumped up on the couch and climbed up on the back of the couch near Cutter's shoulder like he was trying to see the papers.

Cutter smiled at that and lifted his papers up so that Rex could have a closer look at them, he hadn't done much writing yet but he did have a few points written down, "what do you think Rex? Any ideas?"

It was a start and Rexy seemed impressed. He then gave a few chirps then turned and jumped off the back of the couch. He scurried over to the pile of laundry waiting to be washed and nosed through the clothes as if he was looking for something.

Cutter smiled as he put the papers down and then stood up to see where Rex had gotten to, he followed Rex to the pile of clothes, "what have you found there Rex? Are you going to do my laundry for me?"

There had been a reason that there was quite a pile of laundry on the floor.

It was a rather large pile to have fun searching through! Rex burrowed into the pile and from somewhere inside he chirped happily. A moment later, he crawled out of the pile dragging a rather familiar-looking hooded jacket with him as he trotted proudly over to Cutter.

Cutter's expression faltered somewhat as he realised that Rex had pulled out one of Connor's hoodies that had been missed, "oh Rex ..." he said a little sadly, "I guess Connor forgot to take his hoodie back with him," he felt a pang in his stomach and he looked sadly down at Rex.

Rex looked up at Cutter and chirped, as if asking him what was wrong as he circled around him a few times. He then went back to the hoodie and nuzzled it a bit until the hood got stuck on the crest on his head.

But this was good, it made it easier to drag it around, which is exactly what Rex did as he headed off back toward the couch.

Cutter gave a sad smile as he followed Rex back to the couch, "did you need me to help you carry that Rex?" he said softly as he watched Rex drag the hoodie towards the couch.

Rex chirped a very definitive 'yes' as he jumped up on the couch and looked at Cutter. He didn't know where Connor had gone or why he wasn't there. But he had found something that reminded him of his favorite person. And now, he wasn't about to leave it.

Cutter gave a small smile at that as he bent down to pick up Connor's hoodie and placed it on the couch so that Rex could curl up in it, he reached over to give him a few scritches, "you know, I miss Connor too," he told Rex softly.

Rex nuzzled the hoodie and curled up in it, resting his head on the couch as he chirped happily. Lifting his head he gave Cutter a small, somewhat sad chirp as he nuzzled against his hand, trying to cheer him up a little. Rex didn't like it when his humans were sad.

"Thank you Rex," Cutter said softly as Rex nuzzled against his hand and he gave him a few scritches in return, "that's very nice, it's been nice having you here in the flat with me," as much as he was looking forward to Connor coming back, he was also going to miss Rex being around all the time, he had grown quite used to his company these last few days.

He would come keep you company anytime Cutter. While Rex didn't understand things like relationships and the like, he did know one thing. His humans were happier when they were around and talking to each other. So Rex was going to make sure Cutter and Connor saw each other whenever he could.

But for now, he was content to lay curled up on the couch nestled in Human number One's hoodie and resting his head on Human number Two's leg, letting out a contented trilling chirp as he did.

Cutter smiled warmly as Rex rested his head on his leg and he leaned over and gave Rex several scritches, “Connor will be back soon Rex,” he promised him.

That was good. He missed Connor. There were interesting things he had to show him- like the cool looking lint ball he had been playing with earlier. Rex gave a loud chirp as if to say "he had better!"

And Cutter's smile widened as if he understood what Rex was saying, "he should be back at the end of the week, time moves a little different for home and Fandom, so if it was like when I went away, he's probably been gone for two weeks but he's only been gone for one," he tilted his head curiously at Rex, "I'm really having a conversation with a lizard aren't I?" he gave Rex more scritches.

Rex was a very good listener, Cutter! One of the best around!

Rex lay there contentedly, giving a slow happy chirp as he closed his eyes. This was nice. Very nice.

He was definitely one of the best listeners!

Cutter smiled at Rex as he began to close his eyes and as he kept giving Rex scritches, he was finding that he was quite liking this, it was rather nice.

At some point Rex decided that as nice as this was it could be even better. And so he got up and nuzzled at the hoodie until he had pushed it up into Cutter's lap. With a proud chirp he jumped up in his lap and proceeded to make himself comfortable. Chest snuggles were reserved for his favorite human, but lap snuggles were just as nice.

And Cutter couldn't help but give a wide smile as Rex got the hoodie on his lap and then proceeded to make himself comfortable there, once Rex was comfortable on his lap, he leaned back on the couch and kept giving Rex all the scritches. He could definitely get used to this.
