Flint had no idea people were visiting this weekend. That would require, well, talking to people, and right now he was far too busy with his latest Charles Dickens novel.

He was sitting in the window for a small change, and the door was open, for a larger one.

The Ink Spot was open!

Fandom Radio, Friday, September 26, 2025

Good morning, everyone, it's Captain Steve Rogers with the news. Why are there so many more of you in here today?

*chittering*

Ah, visiting relatives come a little early. Welcome.

Let's get to the classes so we can all greet our guests. Baking class made tarts, and Tony made jokes about tarts. Food Adventures explored Oktoberfest, and Belle was stocking books in the library. It won't be much of a zombie class if you didn't fight zombies, so that's what they did yesterday, and Gladio came by with lunch and a debrief about how the class had gone during Liliana's office hours.

*chittering*

Well, you should've left before them. Privacy. Learn about it.

In town, Liz was rushing through reports to be ready for the weekend, Luma was definitely working--strange emphasis there--and Steven received flowers from Watts, Summer was working from the Perk, and Rey told Summer that she's dating Adrian now, so congratulations to the both of you! Stark caught Summer up on the animal visitors from last week and told her about the friend who's visiting today.

Pam was planting seeds in the park for Spring, and Thor was making certain that Tiny wasn't getting fancy with the beer at the Devil's Nest, and Supper Club ate Afghan food.

That's everything! Enjoy your weekends.

Needful Things; Friday Afternoon

So, Cass was in town. The other Harley too, apparently, which this Harley wasn't sure how she felt about, but as usual: the kid was within her field of vision, so she was who all of Harley's focus was on. Everything else, she could worry about later. Or possibly not at all!

Anyway, Cass was inspecting the store. Or mostly its wares. She gave a low whistle. "Damn, was all this from just the one job?"

Harley shrugged. "Most of it?" she offered. "We got a thing or two in from elsewhere later, but, yanno. Turns out Frenchie's not too much more of a slouch than I am, so we got around."

"So where's my cut?" the kid asked.

Harley raised her eyebrows at her. (She was so proud, but still, eyebrows.) "I seem to recall you getting a very nice, nay, almost infinite stack of gift cards for your favorite food delivery apps." A beat. "Also, whatever ya just pocketed, put it back."

Cass grumbled, but relented and put the overly expensive little figurine back on the shelf.

Needful Things was open and Harley Quinn & Associate, Badass Motherfuckers were in.

Weather & Storms, Friday, Second Period

"Today," Thor told his students once they had joined him in the Danger Shop classroom, the outside of which was eerily still at the moment, "we wait to see if the storms will dance."

He clicked a button, and the hurricane map was projected on the board. "The system we discussed a few weeks ago has become Hurricane Gabrielle, and then faded into a post-tropical cyclone as she moved into cooler waters. Two new systems have developed, one already becoming Hurricane Humberto--" He pointed to it with Mjolnir. "--and the other with a very strong chance of becoming a cyclone soon. It is rare to have two cyclones this close together at the same time, and it can lead to something very interesting: the Fujiwhara Effect, wherein the storms begin to spin around one another, as if they are connected by some fixed central point. They have to be very close for this to happen, so it is very rare, but...perhaps this will be the time.

"It is perhaps something we should not wish for, the Fujiwhara Effect. It is chaotic, dangerous. Two storms linked in such a manner striking land together would surely lead to great destruction. But...it is quite beautiful, is it not? The storms, dancing. One can understand how meteorologists might hope to get to see it. There is some philosophical conclusion in there, but I will leave it to you to figure it out. For now, please enjoy your weekend with your loved ones. Dismissed."

Driver's Ed: Drive Fast [Friday, Period One]

Today, the class was outside! Because how else would one learn to drive but to get out onto the streets? And a rickshaw was totally how you do that. Right. Sure. But these rickshaws were long. Like, way too long. They were, in fact, stretch rickshaws in honor of the guests for the weekend. How did they even get them? Don't ask!

"Welcome back, today I guess we're trying out alternative vehicles?" Jane said. That was most weeks, honestly. "I don't know how they even turn corners."

"All the manual says is 'it's a surprise'." Probably a bad one, let's be real. "So I'd practice before taking your guests out...assuming you like them." Cara wasn't judging, she'd had a few shocking guests in her time.

"Yes, we'll practice making safe turns," Jane agreed. "That's a good idea."

You know, once they figure out what a safe turn even was. "Sounds like a plan."

Parents Weekend Meet & Greet, Friday

Clearly it was unavoidably fall now, because while the weather wasn't exactly chilly, Parents Weekend had rolled around once more - and with it, picnic tables and name tags and great potential for surprise/confusion/joyful reunions among residents and guests alike.

There was also a banner in Fandom's colors floating above the tables, of course:

WELCOME TO PARENTS WEEKEND 2025!

Come meet your people! Or just to grab some free snacks.

Plant Parenthood; Friday [09/26].

Since the logistics of having their family come and visit were...difficult, Eleanor and Luma were sort of planning on a Reverse Parents Weekend, which was just a way of saying they were probably going to go home. Between their mother's needs and Rhys' condition, and Aunt Margaret being...well, Aunt Margaret...it just made more sense. Eleanor was a little tempted to see who might else be visiting for her friends, but for the most part, they were overdue for a trip home, anyway.

So she was using her time at the shop today to finish a few things that she'd promised the people of the town near the new house to help them with this and that and the other thing. She was going to pick up a few more plants for the greenhouse there with careful instructions for Margaret in maintaining them, and just generally preparing for what would likely be a long weekend of trying to fill her grandmother's very large shoes.

And it was kind of a shame, too, that she had so much to do, because there was a new book of poetry in her bag that Luma had thoughtfully picked up for her at the library earlier the week that she'd barely even been able to crack yet...

Plant Parenthood is open!

The Arms Hotel, Friday

Mary was cutting it a little close, arriving on the island by portal not long before guests started checking in. But it was Groundhog Summer, the last weekend that the pools were open in Las Vegas and she had stayed at the pool until the last moments before her portal. Mary wasn't feeling the autumn vibes yet, seeing as she was wearing a one-piece halter top swimsuit with a sarong wrapped around her waist and a wide-brimmed hat. Her sunglasses were at the front desk. It was too bad that the Arms Hotel didn't have a pool.

The Troopers had gotten hold of some toy race cars and were spending time in between fielding calls about thieving lawn gnomes and flamingos with threatening auras by playing with them.

Though not by racing them, no. They'd also found two miniature soccer goals and a soccer ball, and were using the cars to try and knock the ball into the goals.

Watts was inclined to let them, so long as they actually responded to the aforementioned calls in a timely manner.

At least this dead body didn't have an ivory chess piece in her mouth, so hooray for a normal murder!

...Steve reflected after a moment that maybe his internal monologue had grown a little jaded for that observation.

"Okay, team, what do we know?" he asked, staring at the young woman, dead in her bed in prime-time-TV appropriate lingerie.

The library felt less like the tundra today so Belle was enjoying that, at least.

The gremlins who were circling up and pretending (she hoped they were pretending) to kick another gremlin who was lying on the floor laughing.

She really didn't want to know. She was just going to be tidying up displays so things might look nice for the weekend should anyone stop by the library.

Yes, one display was of popular romance novels and she had no idea how it got there. Honestly.

The Perk; Thursday Afternoon [09/25].

Sometimes, it was the little things you missed. Like sitting in a coffee shop with your laptop working on some business stuff, because, yes, there were coffee shops on Ravnica, but did you think Summer wanted to deal with having to explain to people about laptops? Especially with the Izzet League around? That was a can of worms she was only going to open in the case of a dire dead battery situation (and, yes, she had a contingency plan in place for exactly that occurrence).

But while she was in Fandom for her class, she didn't have to worry about that at all! And she did still have a business here to keep an eye on, too, although, let's be honest, T&C definitely always managed to take care of itself even without anyone to manage it. But it was good to keep Apu and Prompto and the cheese panda on their toes and to remind them that she was still signing their checks.

Also? PSL. Come on.

Which also....she might not be ready to deal with poisoning the well with laptop technology, but pumpkin spice, on the other hand...She could put in a few orders through the shop today, and, if she did decide to stick around for Parents' Weekend, it could get here by Monday and she wouldn't even have to deal with any extra portals!

Ugh! Why was she just so good at this???

[[ I'm likely going to be SLOW due to work, but post is absolutely open for all your perkly needs! ]]

Pixie Dust; Thursday [09/25].

Luma was currently shifting through the stock of gloves that they had in the store, specifically trying to find a good pair of red leather ones without any fingers. Driving gloves, really, which she realized could be useful one day, especially as she now envisioned herself quite the stylish driver behind the wheel of some convertible, the wind blowing through her hair and the trail of a dynamic red scarf. Iconic, really.

But that was getting ahead of herself. First things first, she needed to find a pair of the gloves she was looking for, because she'd become mildly obsessed with a look she saw coming from Laquan Smith this year, and was desperate to recreate it for....well, she didn't quite know for what yet, but those gold nails immediately called to her and she needed them.

So, if anyone needed help, Luma might be a bit distracted, but she was certainly here.

Tiny kept trying to change the special on the board and Thor kept having to threaten him with Mjolnir.

Possibly this was because the special on the board was:

BEER. Just Beer.

C'mon, Thor! Surely it could use some pumpkin spicing up!

As Tiny reached for the chalk again, Thor let the lightning crackle."No," he said sternly.

Food Adventures, Thursday, First Period

"Last week, we started exploring Rome, and I said we were going to do kind of a little unit on Rome," Raiden said. "And we are. But we're going to have to get back to that later, because this week we're headed to Munich, Germany, for their famous Oktoberfest! Now, Oktoberfest is a festival mainly celebrating beer, but that doesn't mean there's nothing there for you if you're not into beer. There's lots of food and rides, concerts and events--I think today is the Oktoberfest church service, which is a thing that exists--and just generally fun for everyone. So let's head to Oktoberfest and have some fun!

"Before we get there, though, when we go through the portal we're going to stop off first at a dirndl and lederhosen rental place, so anyone who wants to can get properly outfitted. It's on me!" He hoped they had lederhosen in his size. "Now we can go."

Great British Bake Off (But American) - Thursday 9/25

"Hi!" Steve said with a friendly, if slightly dorky, wave from the front of the room. "I hope all of your braided breads worked out!"

"Because it's tart week this week," Tony added with a cheerful little grin. "And who doesn't love a good tart? I know I do."

"I regret this class already," Steve told the students with a grin. "Okay, so after we see your breads, we want you to get started on your signature fruit curd tarts--like a lemon meringue pie but fussier."

Not that many baked goods were fussier than a lemon meringue pie.

"Following that, we'll be asking you to make a Portuguese egg custard tart called a pastel de nata." And not just because Tony was craving them. But mostly for that reason, honestly.

"Oh, I love those!" Steve said enthusiastically.

"And then for your homework, we'd like to see stacked... cheesecakes. Which seems like a bad idea when you look at it, but it's just an engineering challenge." Wrong class for that, Anthony!

Steve shot Tony a slightly horrified look before nodding at the students. "I look forward to seeing those next week!"

Much like she'd spent her class, Liliana was sitting at her desk in her office. Rather than doing her nails, however, she was taking notes on the class, highlighting things to discuss in future lectures, suggestions to offer her students, both generally and on an individual level, aspects she should highlight or downplay in the future.

...And maybe an idea or two to incorporate into her own ghoulcalling in the future. Zombie media on this plane was absolutely ridiculous, but that didn't mean she couldn't use it for inspiration anyway.

*more chittering*

*even more impassioned chittering*

Oh, look, we're airing, we'll have to finish the civics lesson another time, Leroy. You are right, though, so give me my notes so I have help you with that whole thing.

Let's see, up at the School, the Space Pirate, Pirates in Space, actually did something on their boat in 'space' that apparently involved asteroids. In Health Education, Don told the class to wash their damned hands. While in the Library the gremlins were raving and Luma returned All The Books.

Up in the Dorms, Henry couldn't sleep so he was hanging around the Second Floor Common Room, which brought joy to the porg at least.

In Town, Gray was being 'Too Soon' at Over Easy, but Arden did approve of this week's waffle choice, at Pick Your Poison, Adrian and Boston were getting ready for Parent's Weekend, when Rey stopped in for kissing, as did Pam though apparently she got no kisses. Finally at Furnado, Prompto's child was very bird focused.

Surviving the Zombie Apocalypse, Thursday, Per 3

Well, the Danger Shop was no longer looking like an old timey movie theater, which was a plus. Instead, it was back to its classroom configuration, complete with a heavy copy of Gray's Anatomy (the text, not the show) on each desk.

"So," she said once class began, "this weekend is Parents' Weekend. I will be holding office hours, certainly on Saturday, likely on Sunday as well." Because she was not expecting guests this year, and was going to have quite the rude awakening when she discovered that she did. "If there are certain things you wish for me to keep from your guests - names, pronouns, the existence of magic, that this is a dimensional nexus, and so on and so forth - you should inform me of this sometime before your visitors show up. I have remarkably few qualms about lying, but I do need a heads up in the first place. Informing me of any lies you have already told your guests will also be useful. I am not a telepath, thank any number of gods for small favors."

Faintly, they could hear the sounds of some kind of commotion, like several classes were moving through the downstairs hallways with no disregard for the other classes that were still in session. Liliana ignored them. "Moving onto topics actually relevant to the class, today we'll be covering basic anatomy and physiology to give you a better idea of what and where to aim when fighting off the undead." The noises outside their classroom were getting both louder and closer. "Many of you are used to fighting living opponents, who are often hampered by things like pain, bleeding, fear, asphyxiation, adrenaline, and a respect for one's own organs. None of those things will stop a zombie, so many of you may have fighting instincts that are normally useful, but will actually be detrimental in situations where your opponent is undead."

By this point, it sounded like complete pandemonium outside. Running, yelling, people demanding information or calling for order, even a few screams of terror. Or perhaps pain?

And below all of that: groans.

"Now then, if you will please turn to page eighty-three, the chapter on the skeletal structure--" she continued, as a loud roar echoed down the hall. Pandemonium turned to panic as the people outside began shrieking, "ZOMBIES!" and running for their lives.

"Oh my, it seems the school is currently undergoing a zombie invasion," she said, pulling out a manicure set and beginning to file her nails. The tone of her voice was reminiscent of Gene Wilder calling for police help. "Oh no, whatever will you do to survive?" She glanced back up at anyone who was still in their seat, and made a little shooing motion with her hands. "That's your assignment, by the way. Survive. Or, at least die in such a way that teaches you a valuable life lesson in what not to do next time."
